Covid 19: TNPL Secured permission for ‘Raw material and finished good’ movement under essential commodity services

After the announcement made by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for the lockdown of 21 days across India, most of the big paper mills have halted their paper manufacturing process amid the fear of spreading corona virus in the country. However, the Government of India has granted permission to the Paper industry to operate under essential commodity services. Paper mills may start their plant after securing the required permission from the state government.

Using this option, India's largest public-sector Paper mill- Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) have secured the required permission from the local administration of Trichy district. Exclusively talking to The Pulp and Paper Times, Mr. SVR Krishnan Executive Director- Operation said, “Yes we received the permission for the movement of Raw material and finished paper good under essential commodity services. However, our both paper manufacturing facilities at kagithapuram and mondipatti will remain shut till 14th April 2020 due to Corona fear.
In a letter to the Sub Collector, Srirangam, Trichy district on 1st April, TNPL sought permission to run the board plant with minimum workforce with adequate precautionary measures. TNPL also request for granting permission for the movement of vehicles/trucks to transport the raw material viz. imported pulp and imported waste paper from Tuticorin port to mondipatti unit.
“We have permission under essentials services, but because of fear of the corona virus and respecting the sentiments of the employees, we are keeping our production of paper shut till 14th April. Even we have advance permission for the movement of finished goods to customers, but we have not started the conversation to our customers yet,â€
“We have started the movement of raw material to clear it from the port,†Mr. Krishnan said.
