Orient Board and Paper plans to manufacture MG poster & Lighter GSM paper, PM-2 soon to commence production

Muzaffarnagar | 7th June 2021 | The Pulp and Paper Times:

A rising demand from the FMCG, Pharma, Textile, food and beverages sector, in response to an increasing focus on sustainable packaging is a contributing growth factor. While a decline in sales is likely, following the COVID-19 outbreak, a recovery is expected from 2022 onwards.

“The rising preference of sustainable packaging has led to an increase in demand for packaging solutions that can also be recycled. In fact, machine glazed (MG) paper manufacturers are inclined towards sustainable packaging and are promoting environment-friendly packaging,” said Mr. Anant Tyagi, Director at Orient Board and Paper Mills Pvt. Ltd. (OBPMPL)

Mr. Tayagi explained that the ability of machine glazed poster paper to provide exclusive mechanical strength, flexibility and printability makes it an ideal choice for [the] packaging of industrial and non-industrial goods. Shifting inclination towards strong, yet sustainable packaging solutions will create sales opportunities.

Situated at Muzaffarnagar, OBPMPL has aimed to step in MG poster paper and lighter GSM kraft paper manufacturing also. “Yes, we have planned to go into an expansion drive by setting up 70 TPD paper machine line in the existing premise of OBPMPL. Both the paper segments are much in demand and we have placed the order to Hardayal Engineering to stall the second machine in the mill,” Mr. Tyagi informed.

Mr. Tyagi further said that we have invested in the best technology and engaged elite supplier for paper machinery. “Our finished deckle of machine is 4.1 meters and designed speed is 350 m/min. We are aiming to produce lighter GSM & MG poster paper in between 18 to 100 GSM range with maximum BF of 30, while brightness for poster paper will be 85 percent,” he said.

“Lighter GSM kraft paper will be suitable for paper bag, wrapping, envelope and poster paper is good for printing industry,” Mr. Tyagi said.

OBPMPL is targeting to start the trial production by September 2021, currently, the erection of the machine is in full swing. “We are expected to invest INR 30 Cr in PM-2,” Mr. Tyagi said.

OBPMPL has selected Hardayal Engineering for supplying the plant and machinery while pulp mill section and headbox is to be installed by Parason Machinery. “It’s a completely automatic production unit with all critical components,” Mr. Tyagi informed.

On the question of improvement in the plummeted demand, Mr. Tyagi looks optimistic about the demand rise, “The mass scale vaccination drive in the country followed by COVID behaviour protocol by the citizens may boost the demand of paper to a satisfactory level in coming months” he said.

“Sustainability” has been the buzzword in packaging for the last several years. Although there are major changes being made to cut back in the amount of packaging materials and save money, some believe that we are only at the beginning of a trend.
