36000 TPA: Century Pulp and Paper starts production on second Tissue Machine

Aiming to tap the growing market of tissue paper, Century Pulp and Paper (CPP) has successfully started manufacturing on second tissue paper machine. “We are excited to have the second Valmet tissue line up and running in our Lalkua mill in India. In Century Pulp and Paper, we constantly develop the mill with latest technology to ensure premium tissue quality to our customers and at the same time reduce the environmental impact. We are the first company in India to install a tissue line equipped with the Advantage ViscoNip press technology. Valmet’s flexible and result-oriented approach has also been an important part to achieve a successful start-up” said Mr. J.P. Narain, CEO, Century Pulp and Paper.

The new Valmet production line will add over 36,000 tonnes of high-quality facial tissue, toilet tissue, kitchen towel and napkin grades to the company's current annual production capacity

“We are excited to be the first company in India to install a tissue line equipped with an Valmet Advantage ViscoNip press. The combination of the state-of-the-art pressing technology and Valmet Advantage ReDry will provide significant energy savings, uniform moisture profile and nip load flexibility up to 150 kN/m,” Mr. Narain said.

Mr. J.P. Narain further said that tissue market growth pre-COVID was 12% and it is going to grow up to 15% in next 2 years because the personal consumption segment of tissue which was 35% earlier has gone to 45 - 50 % due to hygiene awareness. Away From Home will come back within next 6 months once this all associate industries will come back to normal operation.

Technical information about the delivery

The new Valmet Tissue Advantage DCT 100HS tissue machine, TM 7, will have a deckle width of 285cm and a design speed of 2,000 m/min. The machine will be equipped with an OptiFlo headbox and a 16-foot Yankee cylinder. It will also feature the Advantage tissue technologies AirCap and Hot Air system, as well as a SoftReel. It also features the new ReDry technology, a novel way to recover energy from hood exhaust air to heat the web before drying. In combination with the ViscoNip press, it has proven to provide significant energy savings and quality improvements. The raw material is virgin fibre, and the production line is optimized to save energy and enhance the quality of the final product.
