Premium Coated Duplex Demand: Prolific paper to plan coated duplex production from end of 2016

Kashipur,  Aug,13, 2016: Prolific paper is planning to tap premium coated duplex paper market segment by end of this year. The mill has decided to convert the uncoated duplex production into  coated duplex. Talking  to The Pulp and Paper Times the internal sources said currently we are producing 60 TPD uncoated duplex of grammage range from 120 to 150 gsm which is to be converted in to coated after chemical coating. Duplex board is tough, thin and able to take on a bright white appearance, unlike common corrugated cardboard. It is commonly used to create boxes for a variety of small goods. For example, it is often used in pharmaceutical packaging. It is also used to make garment boxes and cigarette packs,  paper plates and cups, and in the food industry. Other common uses for duplex board are match boxes, book covers, and greeting cards. This kind of duplex board is relatively lightweight. After chemical coating the duplex will be turned in to 200 to 400 GSM range. However the sources refuse to disclose the investment figure. The expansion plan of coated duplex is surely in the pipeline. The use of coated board is targeted to manufacture various varieties of products like medicine packaging, sweet boxes, Book cover etc informed by sources. 

According to the newly released "India Paper Industry Forecast & Opportunities, 2017” the paper industry in India is expected to grow at the CAGR of around 9.6% during 2012- 2017, which will make the revenues of paper industry of India to reach up to USD 11.83 Billion by 2017. About 70% of the total installed capacity of paper production in India is accounted by Gujarat, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Kerala, Bihar and Assam together account for about 25% of the total paper production in India.
