Kraft Paper Accounted for Nearly 57% in Packaging Sector: IPPTA

Saharanpur: The Paper Industry occupies a prestigious position among the various manufactur- ing enterprises globally. In fact, Packaging of commod- ities and valuable commercial goods, make it an indispensable and environmental friendly product. India's paper consumption has grown at a steady rate of nearly 7.0% in the last five years and is expected to continue with this growth on the back of increas- ing literacy rates and a healthy GDP forecast. Western India has been emerging as a hub of packaging paper manufactur- ing. Packaging sector has pampered paper industry for more Kraft paper production. Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (IPPTA) is organising a conference on "Technological Development in Packaging Grades of Paper and Board” The conference is to be held on 26 and 27th November at Vapi. IPPTA's Joint Secretary Mr. Vinay Goyal told The Pulp and Paper Times that “The Paper board industry share was estimated at 37% of the total domestic paper market. The demand of paper board in packaging sector is a derived demand as it depends on the growth of end use segment like FMCG, Pharma etc and it is directly connected with the industrial growth and consumer market. Of the total industrial demand of Packaging sector in 2014- 15, Kraft Paper accounted for nearly 57%, recycled Board like Grey Back/ White Back accounted for 32% and Virgin Board like FBB/SBB accounted for 11%.” “Packaging, Printing and converting technology is changing very fast globally. To cater the need of this changing scenario at every stage, it is necessary to match the pace of users’ require- ment. Upgrading the existing facilities and installation of new plant with latest technol- ogy and its operation at optimum efficiency and cost, remains the only answer to stay in the business.” Informed by S.K. Jain, Senior President of Emami Paper Mills The profile of seminar will include some important issues like Current status, Issues and challenges facing the industry and path forward, Automation and Process control system, latest develop- ments and case studies for energy conservation and Opportunities for reduction in fresh water consumption.
