Paras (Nepal): Economic activity is rebounding Estrongly in Nepal following two challenging years. The country's economy may expand by up to 6.2 percent in the current fiscal year led by a bumper agricultural output, prospects of a pick-up in post-earthquake reconstruction works, and an improving investment climate, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said. “We are very enthusiastic about the future growth prospects in Nepal inclining to set up a Kraft paper Production of 100 TPD. Nepal has good corrugation consumption market and retail sector is back on track after the disturbance in Nepal.” Talking exclusively to The Pulp and Paper Times, Mr. Dipesh Aggarwal Managing Director of Shree Maruti Paper & Chemicals Ind. P Ltd. said “We are in the process of setting up 100 TPD Packaging Kraft paper plant in Nepal at Parsa district. We are aiming to start production by the end of May 2017. We are planning to produce 100 to 180 GSM paper with B.F of 14 to 22. Even we can go up to 24 BF as we have size press.” Foreign direct investment (FDI) flows to Nepal over the last decade, for instance, have remained below 1 percent of the GDP. International comparison shows that Nepal lags behind many peer countries in terms of attracting foreign investments. To turnaround the existing situation, Nepal could introduce further reforms especially to address the de-facto practices and procedures governing foreign investment, mainly related to approval, visa and repatriation of earnings, the report says. Mr. Aggarwal further said that “We have estimated the total investment in the project is around 50 Cr. targeting to arrange the finance from Bank and our own in 60:40 ratio. The speed of the machine is designed at 200 to 250 m/min and deckle is 3.2 meters. We will sell the finished product only in Nepal due to the higher consumption demand and less paper mills.” Maruti Paper is planning to sale its finished products in Nepal only. “However we would source other resources from India” said Mr. Aggarwal.
