4th Paper Day’s spirit beats the Corona fear; FPTA conducts plantation drive all across India, distributing free masks & copies

New Delhi | 1st August 2020 | The Pulp and Paper Times:

The corona pandemic can decrease the demand of paper for a while but can’t suppress the encouragement to celebrate the National Paper Day. Paper manufacturers, Traders, Corrgutors, consumers, and various paper associations have come forward to mark the ‘Paper Day’ occasion gracefully on 1st August. Federation of Paper Traders Association (FPTA) conducts the plantation drive all across the nation. The various member associations of FPTA plant trees and distributed masks and copies to poor children at various places.

“We celebrate this day on every 1st August to promote use of paper & to educate our people that paper is Eco friendly, as this year corona world pandemic is going on we are not celebrating this event on a large scale, but we are doing some essay competition for children on various topics such as lockdown & virtual classroom, and perform the plantation of trees all across the nation,” Said Mr. Chandra Dev Chaudhary, FPTA – President.

“Paper is biodegradable, renewable, recyclable and sustainable, made from planted trees. Growing and harvesting trees provide jobs for lakhs of people. Working forests support the environment, providing clean air, clean water through increased rainfall, wildlife habitat and carbon storage. Thus, the usage of paper is good for the environment. At IPMA, we have started a campaign “Use Paper, Save Environment”, Said Mr. A.S. Mehta, President, Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) in an exclusive message to The Pulp and Paper Times

“On this Paper Day, I wish that the recycling paper industry be given its right place and credit in society and in government circles. We have been waiting for too long for getting recycling incentives from GOI, like abolishing income tax, enhancing export incentives, scrapping of electricity duty, removal from a red category from pollution board etc,” said Mr. Sunil Agarwal, President, Gujarat Paper Mills Association, Vapi in a message to The Pulp and Paper Times.

Mr. Dev further stated that we also want all the paper traders write a letter to our respected Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on current topics like corona, the security of our country & how we can make our country “Sone ki Chidiya” again.

“Paper and paperboard provide much more environment-friendly and better packaging material than alternate materials. Two of the most pressing global environmental problems are the disposal of e-waste and single-use plastic. The paper industry has been closely associated with the national objectives of Greening India, Rural Employment, and usage of Sustainable Resources, besides meeting paper needs of the Indian consumers,

“Paper should be celebrated on all days as it is an integral part of our lives. On Paper Day, 1st August, all of us should strive towards spreading proper awareness about paper,” Mr. Mehta further said in the message.

Millions of people from the paper community at social media aggressively shower the messages of Paper Day at various social media platforms.  

One of the activities planned by FPTA for the 2020 Paper Day is expressing our views on certain issues of National importance to our Hon'ble Prime Minister!

Some information/instructions about this letter-writing activity:

-          Idea was conceived to inculcate the habit of writing and reintroducing the art of writing letters and eventually promotes usage of paper

-          This activity is open to all irrespective of their age and it can be written in any local language

-          Since the topics chosen are of National importance, it may not only throw up some innovative ideas but also give FPTA a good mileage.

-          The participants have been requested to send a soft copy of the letter to fptamumbai@gmail.com This is to evaluate the letters of the participants for rewarding the best letters

-          We will launch this activity on 1.8.20 and consider all entries received up to 10.8.20 and announce the winners on 15.8.20.

-          All participants are requested to mention as a footnote the following sentence in the letter "an initiative of Federation of Paper Traders Associations of India to commemorate PAPER DAY (1st August)

WHY 1ST AUGUST?

Paper tells, earlier known as the Handmade Paper Institute, is India’s primary handmade paper factory based in Pune. Mahatma Gandhi had been propagating the importance of Paper since his participation at the Haripur Congress. Mahatma Gandhi later persuaded Scientist K.B Joshi who went on to establish the Handmade Paper Institute which introduced the method of paper making out of waste materials.  This institute was inaugurated by Shri Jawaharlal Nehru on 1ST AUGUST 1940 and has since been supplying handmade papers across India

The unique feature of the paper manufactured at this institute is making paper in the most eco-friendly way. The manufacturing process implemented is also completely eco-friendly and does not pollute the environment in any way.  This institute produces a paper that has a shelf life of 100 to 500 years!
