PaperTech 2024: Chairman Ganesh Bhadti Emphasizes Paper Industry's Transition to Low-Carbon Economy, Notes 20% Emission Reduction

Hyderabad, India — The 18th edition of CII PaperTech, a premier conference dedicated to advancing the Indian pulp and paper industry, held on 10th & 11th September 2024 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). This year’s conference, themed "Make Indian Pulp & Paper Industry World Class," brings together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for elevating the sector to international standards.

Mr. Ganesh Bhadti, Chairman of PaperTech 2024 and Director-Operations at Seshasayee Paper and Boards Limited, delivered the welcome remarks and theme address. “The paper industry is witnessing an unprecedented shift in magnitude and importance as we move away from fossil based products and towards a low-carbon economy,” said Mr. Bhadti. “The Indian paper and board industry has successfully reduced emissions by over 20% in the last decade, showcasing its commitment to greener production methods.”

Mr. Pawan Agarwal, President of the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) and Managing Director of Naini Papers Ltd., said, “The plantation-based paper industry holds immense potential, with the ability to grow plants within 4-5 years.” “With such a sustainable approach, the future of the paper industry looks brighter than ever.”

Mr. SVR Krishnan, Vice-President of the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPPTA) and Executive Director of Khanna Paper Mills Ltd., discussed the latest trends in paper production technologies and their impact on operational efficiency. “As Industry 4.0 transforms manufacturing, we now have the tools to seamlessly automate process flows, allowing us to be more agile and responsive,” said Mr. Krishan.

Mr. Rahul Khanna, President of the Indian Newsprint Manufacturers Association (INMA) and Managing Director of Khanna Paper Mills Limited, discussed the challenges and advancements in newsprint production, and the strategic approaches needed to address these issues. “Absorbing the fresh ideas from budding professionals is key, as they transition to become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Mr. Khanna.

In addition to insightful discussions and keynote addresses, PaperTech 2024 featured the release of the “Best Practices Manual in the Paper Sector- Volume 12,” showcasing advancements and innovations within the industry. The conference also honored Dr. ARK Rao with a Distinguished Personality award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the pulp and paper sector.

The PaperTech 2024 is being organized in tandem with the 23rd CII Energy Efficiency Summit. The event will be followed by the 25th CII National Energy Awards for Excellence in Energy Management where the top paper manufacturing units in India will present & showcase their technical & managerial expertise in energy efficiency and energy management.
