Laminate Industry Growth attracting more Absorbent Kraft Paper Plants; Star Abhiyan to Produce 150 TPD by September

Yamuna Nagar | 27 June 2019 | The Pulp and Paper Times:

The Absorbent Kraft Paper has good absorbency and penetrating power. The high viscosity Absorbent Kraft Paper is used for lamination. The Absorbent Kraft Paper is widely used in Decklan sheets. “Furniture industry prominently boosts sales of low-pressure laminates that are attributed to robust growth of the domestic furniture sector, almost 60% of the total furniture sold is household, which is likely to push demand for low-pressure laminates further,” explained by Mr. Sumit Mangal, Partner at Newly established Paper Mill, Star Abhiyan India LLP.

The Absorbent Kraft paper can be categorized under décor paper, which is likely to witness an uptick by 5.5% in 2019. “The growth of the lamination industry has pampered us for Absorbent Kraft Paper Production. For sure, we will receive a good return on our investment in the coming years, foraying Rs. 40 Crore in a modern paper production facility, we are expected to roll out the commercial production of 150 TPD absorbent Kraft by September end.

“We are already into plywood production business at Yamuna Nagar under the name of Star Board Industry and this paper mill will be like 'cherry on the cake'. Out of 150 TPD paper production our sister concern will consume 25 percent paper in-house and rest will be exported and domestically sold,” Mr. Mangal informed.

The size of India's plywood Industry is estimated at Rs 26,000 crore, and it's largely based in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar, which supplies 60-65 percent of total plywood in India. The laminates industry's size is estimated at Rs 7,000 crore. Plywood requires lamination when used for furniture.

The erection of plant and machinery is already in process at the site, “We have chosen the best supplier of Plant & Machinery i.e. N.K.R. Engineers, Ahmadabad, and they have pioneered in supplying automatic plant for manufacturing of quality paper in one go. All the modern and critical components are being installed for producing 100 to 180 GSM paper,” says Mr. Mangal

The new paper mill will have a machine deckle of 3.8 meters (finished) and speed is designed at 250 m/min. “We will also export our paper to Gulf countries and domestically it will be sold at Rs. 24 per kg,” Mr. Mangal said.

Plywood is made from the wood of the Poplar and Eucalyptus trees grown in 500-600-km belt spread in Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and UP. This kind of farming is out of forest reservations and falls under agri plantations. Farmers plant these trees only to supply wood to plywood makers, mostly in the northern belt.

“A surge in the demand for laminate flooring can be attributed to numerous factors. One of the major factors is the rapid growth of the construction industry. Urbanization, industrialization and changing lifestyles have resulted in an increase in the construction activities in the emerging nations. This has ultimately contributed to the growth of the global laminate flooring market,” explained by Mr. Sumit Managal, Director of Newly established Paper Mill, Star Abhiyan India LLP.
