In TNPL, we have set up a new board plant, keeping in view the growth in the field of the packaging industry. We have set up modern and state- of-art technologies to manufacture the board of international quality. We will serve the market within the country and abroad and will meet the quality expectation of MNC and other major converters. It has seemed that the packaging segment is growing fast as compared to writing & printing paper. With the advent of E-commerce requirement of packaging have increased and therefore, the future of packaging industry will be brighter and brighter†Mr. S. Sivashanmugaraja, IAS, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd. described the packaging scenario during the function.
“Our Industry is too heavily dependent on the waste paper or recycle fibre, the availability, which is very limited therefore we required to import huge quantity of waste paper. The recovery rate in our country is only 27% as against the consumption of nearly 18 million tonnes. There is a need to improving recovery rate, for which Government - Centre and State as well municipal corporation need to work as a whole. Paper industry should also be careful what they are importing, like trash and very inferior grade which might lead to serious complication in terms of environmental concern†Mr. Sivashanmugaraja said.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Pramod Agarwal, CMD of Rama Paper Mills Ltd. expresses his concern over the recovery rate of waste paper in India. He said that “The collection of the waste paper in India is very poor compared to the world average. Our collection is only 17 to 30 percent against the world average of 80 to 90 percent. We have to go long way in increasing the recovery rate. Today, we are importing 10 to 12 million tonnes waste paper while recovery from domestic sources is only 3 to 4 million tonnes. Out of 18 million tonnes paper consumption, there is a huge scope of enhancing the recovery rate within the country.â€
